How to organize a slate business
Today, slate is understood as asbestos-cement sheets made of Portland cement with the introduction of asbestos fibers into it. The history of slate dates back more than a century, and during this time it has become a very common building material. At one time this is the most commonly used type of roof, although today it is gradually being displaced by other materials. However, the scope of slate is still quite wide, which makes the business of its production a very promising direction.
Slate production has several competitive manufactures, which can greatly affect entry into the market at first. Today, other materials are often installed as a roof, considering slate to be obsolete and unsafe material. In fact, like all other types of roofing, asbestos-cement sheets have their advantages and disadvantages, and it is impossible to say that they are clearly worse than their alternatives. If only because it is one of the cheapest types of roofing, the demand for it will be constant.
But before starting a business, you need to assess the market situation, determine the closest competitors, and not only those who manufacture the roof, but also slate specifically (because they will become direct competitors), consider prospects and development opportunities. The building materials market, of course, cannot be called oversaturated, but there is usually no shortage of products either, so without any advantages or a good marketing campaign it will be very problematic to take a place on the market.
First you need to register as a business entity. To do this, contact your local tax authority. It’s easier and faster, remaining an individual, to register as an individual entrepreneur. It is preferable to choose a limited liability company from legal entities, because in this case, as in the case of individual entrepreneurs, it will be possible to use a simplified taxation system. This is 6% (of revenue) or 15% (of operating profit) in favor of the state. It is important to choose the right classifier of economic activity, and work in this direction falls under the definition (OKPD 2) 126.96.36.199 – Asbestos-cement sheets (slate). Only this code is suitable directly for asbestos-cement plates, and if you produce some other materials and even some other types of slate, you will have to enter other codes. You also need to obtain certificates and confirmations of the state standard for your products, for asbestos cement slate it is “GOST 30340-95 Wavy asbestos-cement sheets. Specifications “and” GOST 18124-95 Flat asbestos-cement sheets. Technical conditions. ”
Entering the market, you need to clearly understand the advantage of your product. Interestingly, in European countries, the production of slate is practically stopped, because the amphibole asbestos used in Europe is recognized as a carcinogen, which is dangerous to use both in the production and in the operation of buildings. In Russia, there are large deposits of chrysotile asbestos (chrysotile), which is considered less dangerous than its counterpart. Studies are being conducted that prove that this material is not harmless, but at the moment its use in this country is in no way limited. Amphibole asbestos will not have to be used simply because it is not economically viable. But in any case, no matter how good the products are, they will be suitable only for the domestic market, export will be possible only to the countries of the near abroad. This, of course, is a limitation, but not a critical one, even a large plant can easily find consumers for its slate inside the country. But in its production will have to pay a lot of attention to the safety of employees.
The unconditional advantage of slate is low cost, a rare roofing material can cost as much as an asbestos-cement sheet. At the same time, slate is very durable, it can last for decades, and individual broken sheets are easy to replace. Over time, the slate is covered with moss, but this minus is easily eliminated by using primers and paint coating. On the other hand, producing the usual gray sheets without processing may be unprofitable, because today the buyer is trying to find a material that is already aesthetically attractive and does not require subsequent finishing. Therefore, it is worth seriously thinking about organizing a paint shop, at the output of which multi-colored sheets will be obtained. As a result, a wider assortment, rather than two positions (wave and flat slate).
Asbestos-cement slabs are distinguished by good sound insulation (one of the best, if we take the calculations without additional materials), due to their origin they cannot be subjected to corrosion. We should also mention the strength of slate. It is very hard, can withstand the weight of a person, but it is fragile enough to damage it during installation or transportation.
